Romney offers condolences through scripture

Mitt Romney invoked scripture Friday morning to offer his condolences to the families and victims of the tragic Colorado shooting.

"Apostle Paul explained blessed be God who comforteth us in all our tribulations, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble," he said, solemnly standing at a podium devoid of any campaign signs.

The campaign scratched their plans to hold a rally at the lumberyard in Bow, N.H., after news broke of the tragedy. A priest from the Anglican Catholic church was called last minute to open with a prayer before Romney addressed the crowd.

Striking a somber tone, he told the gathering he was speaking "not as a man running for office, but as a father and grandfather, husband and American."

Romney spoke for a brief four minutes.

The president cancelled his second campaign event Friday and traveled back to Washington after delivering brief remarks in the morning in Ft. Myers, Fla., saying, "there will be other days for politics, today is a day for prayer and reflection."
