Rahm Emanuel Hints He'd Give It All Up to Be Mayor of Chicago

President Obama’s pugnacious chief of staff, Rahm Emanuel, hinted that he could become the first high-profile official to leave the Administration -- if an opportunity arises to run for mayor of Chicago, his hometown.
In an unusually candid admission — and a pitch for one of the most powerful municipal jobs in America — Emanuel told PBS' Charlie Rose that he hoped that the incumbent mayor, Richard Daley, would run again in November. But that if he does not, “one day I would like to run.”
To be mayor of the Democratic capital of the Midwest has “always been an aspiration of mine,” Emanuel said “Right now I'm a chief of staff. I’m in the Cabinet ... but one day I want to run again.”
Emanuel has dominated dealings with Congress and day-to-day business since relenting to Obama’s pleading in 2008 that he join the incoming White House team at Cabinet level.
Names floated as possible successors include the two current White House deputy chiefs of staff, Jim Messina and Mona Sutphen, and Robert Gibbs, the press secretary.
