House Speaker Paul Ryan on Tuesday downplayed the talk of a brokered Republican National Convention, despite reports that party leaders are planning for the possibility that they'll have to negotiate who will lead the presidential ticket.

"I think all of this talk about a brokered convention and all of this talk of who's up and who's down is ridiculous," Ryan told Fox News. "I think a good person will emerge from the field because primary voters will make sure that happens."

Ryan will serve as chairman of the Republican National Convention, which will take place in July.

Party leaders are reportedly planning for the possibility that none of the Republican candidates will win enough delegates during the primary to secure the nomination, opening up the possibility of a brokered convention.
