Obama taps major fundraiser for Sweden ambassador

Published December 20, 2015

Associated Press

President Barack Obama is nominating a major fundraiser for his presidential campaign to be the next U.S. ambassador to Sweden.

The White House says Azita Raji is Obama's pick for the job. She's a former investment banker who served as national vice-chair of finance for Obama's 2012 campaign. She helped raise more than $500,000 for Obama's campaign as a "bundler" in 2012.

Obama previously tapped Raji to serve on the President's Commission on White House Fellowship. She's also a commissioner of the Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery and a former vice president of J.P. Morgan Securities.

Raji's nomination must be confirmed by the Senate.
