A Monmouth University poll released Monday shows Republican presidential candidate Marco Rubio’s support tripling in New Hampshire, while Jeb Bush falls to sixth place.
Rubio’s support is now at 13 percent, compared to 4 percent in a Monmouth poll in September, which moves him from seventh to third place.
Bush’s support went unchanged over the same period, but support for other GOP candidates increased, dropping the former Florida governor from fifth to sixth place.
The Florida senator’s rise in New Hampshire, the second state to vote in the 2016 election cycle, follows the Oct. 28 primary debate.
“Marco Rubio’s standout performance … seems to have paid dividends in a contest that was supposed to be dominated by his former mentor Jeb Bush,” said Patrick Murray, director of the independent Monmouth University Polling Institute.
Murray also said Rubio’s “new-found support” seems to be a little soft, compared to that of other top GOP candidates.
“But it is not particularly solid for anybody,” he said.
Billionaire businessman Donald Trump maintains a 10-point lead over second-place Ben Carson, according to the poll, a phone survey of 410 likely primary voters.
Though Bush’s New Hampshire ranking dropped, his favorable rating has since September improved from 39 percent to 44 percent. And his unfavorable number has dropped from 45 percent to 42 percent.
The poll was conducted from October 29 to November 1, with a margin of error of 4.8 percent.
