Published December 21, 2015

Associated Press

Family members say Barbara Vucanovich, who was the first woman to represent Nevada in Congress, has died. She was 91.

The former congresswoman's daughter, Patty Cafferata, says Vucanovich died Monday in Reno after a short illness. She had broken her pelvis in February and never fully recovered.

Vucanovich, a Republican, was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 1982. She served as a representative from 1983 to 1997.
