Heidi Cruz said she is not bothered in the least by the personal attacks leveled against her by her husband’s presidential rival Donald Trump.
Speaking Tuesday night to Fox News’ Megyn Kelly, the wife of Texas lawmaker and Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz said that Trump is running a campaign of “personal destruction.”.
“It didn’t impact me in the least,” Cruz said, when questioned about the feud that erupted between the two candidates in late March over their wives.
“Every time the Trump campaign starts to lose they throw in a distraction of personal destruction… Our campaign never has and never will engage in personal destruction.”
The feud between Cruz and Trump erupted when Make America Awesome, an anti-Trump PAC, ran an ad on Facebook and Instagram that featured a photo of Trump’s wife sprawled out naked on a fur rug accompanied by the text, “Meet Melania Trump. Your next first lady. Or you could support Ted Cruz on Tuesday.”
An angry Trump lashed out at Cruz on Twitter, calling Cruz and liar and threatening to “spill the beans” about his wife Heidi.
“Lyin' Ted Cruz just used a picture of Melania from a G.Q. shoot in his ad,” Trump said on the social media site. “Be careful, Lyin' Ted, or I will spill the beans on your wife!”
Soon after the feud, the National Enquirer ran a story alleging that Cruz had five affairs, a claim that both Cruz and his wife adamantly denied.
“It’s garbage,” Heidi Cruz said on “The Kelly File.” “It’s another example of Donald Trump engaging in the politics of personal destruction.”
She added: “We don’t spend a lot of time talking about it on the campaign because we have 16 states to win.”
