Barack Obama's transition team pushed back against Iowa. Sen. Tom Harkin's complaint Wednesday that the president-elect was not consulting key members of Congress on top appointments.
"President-elect Barack Obama and his transition team have been and will continue to consult with the House and Senate not only on key appointments, but also the economic crisis and key priorities for the new Administration," Obama spokeswoman Jen Psaki said.
The statement came after Harkin told local Iowa reporters in a weekly conference call that members of Congress were concerned that Obama had not spoken with them about his appointments.
"Quite frankly, it's disturbing. It's going to get him off on a bad start," the Iowa Democrat said, according to the Des Moines Register.
According to Obama's transition team, the president-elect has made dozens of calls to Democrats and Republican members in the House and Senate.
Rep. Rahm Emanuel, D-Ill., who has been tapped to be Obama's chief of staff, has also met with members of both parties and made dozens of calls, according to the transition team.
