At least five people are dead and seven injured after a high speed train derailed in Strasbourg, France and plunged into a canal.

According to a Daily Mail report, the train was traveling at an "excessive speed" along a new high speed rail between Strasbourg and Paris which had not been used before.

The train derailed while crossing a bridge, which saw multiple train cars fall into the Marne-Rhine canal, witnesses told the U.K. newspaper.

The news of the train comes as France is on edge after a series of coordinated terrorist attacks that rocked the nation's capital. At least 140 people are dead after the attacks, which targeted civilians around the Stade de France and a concert hall.
