Democrats to stay on Benghazi panel -- for now

Published December 20, 2015

Associated Press

Democrats on the House Benghazi committee are staying -- for now -- on the Republican-led panel a day after Hillary Rodham Clinton's testimony.

A senior Democratic aide said Democrats made the decision after a meeting with House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi.

Democrats have been pondering whether to remain part of the panel, which has spent more than $4.5 million investigating the Sept. 11, 2012 attacks in Benghazi, Libya, that killed four Americans.

Pelosi said earlier Friday that after "defending the truth," the job of the five committee Democrats may be "done."

Clinton was secretary of state during the attacks and now is the Democratic front-runner for president.

The aide spoke on condition of anonymity because the individual wasn't authorized to publicly discuss the meeting.
