Defense Secretary Robert Gates was recovering at home Friday after undergoing arm surgery in the morning at Andrews Air Force Base.

Gates underwent two hours of surgery Friday morning to repair a torn tendon in his left biceps.

Gates has said he'll be ready to resume his duties on Saturday. Deputy Defense Secretary Gordon England is in charge of the Pentagon while he is recovering from the surgery.

The defense secretary injured his arm over the holidays while trying to attach a snowplow blade to a tractor at his home in the Pacific Northwest.

He will be wearing a sling for the second time in a year when he returns to the Pentagon on Monday. Last year, Gates hurt his right arm after he slipped and fell on ice at his home.
