Daytona Commissioner Charged With Ballot Fraud

Published December 23, 2015

Associated Press

A Daytona Beach city commissioner and his campaign manager are facing absentee ballot fraud charges following a complaint by the local elections supervisor.

The commissioner, 41-year-old Derrick Henry, was also placed on leave Wednesday from his job as assistant principal at a local high school. Authorities say Gov. Charlie Crist will likely remove Henry from office pending outcome of the case.

Elections officials say Henry and his campaign manager, 21-year-old Genesis Robinson, violated absentee ballot limits by obtaining 92 ballots prior to the Aug. 24 election. Henry was re-elected in that vote.

It wasn't immediately clear if either man had a lawyer. They surrendered to the Volusia County Sheriff's Office.
