Hillary Clinton defended Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel Friday amid controversy over whether his government suppressed a video of the police shooting of an unarmed teen for more than a year while he weathered an intense re-election campaign.

"He loves Chicago and I'm confident that he's going to do everything he can to get to the bottom of these issues and take whatever measures are necessary to remedy them," Clinton said of Emanuel, with whom she worked during the first two years of the Obama administration, according to Bloomberg.

The release of the tape late last month sparked calls for Emanuel's resignation and prompted the embattled mayor to dismiss his police chief.

Clinton has said she supports an independent review of the Chicago Police Department.
