Boxer thanks Obama for rejecting Keystone

Sen. Barbara Boxer, the top Democrat on the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee panel, thanked President Obama on Friday for rejecting the Keystone XL Pipeline project, which she said "would have brought the filthiest oil known to humankind into our country in large amounts."

Boxer, of California, is not running for re-election, but is among the staunchest opponents of the project. Along with other Democratic lawmakers, she has pressured Obama to reject the pipeline, which would have transported oil from Canada to the Gulf Coast refineries.

"I want to thank the Obama administration for protecting the health of the American people and the health of the planet by rejecting the ill-advised Keystone tar sands pipeline, which would have brought the filthiest oil known to humankind into our country in large amounts," she said.
