Anti-tax group on Trump's Iowa slump: 'We told you so'

As Donald Trump falls to second place in Iowa behind retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson, one conservative group is telling voters: "We told you so."

Roughly two weeks ahead of the latest Quinnipiac University and Des Moines Register/Bloomberg Politics polls showing Carson edging Trump in the earliest voting state, a super PAC affiliated with the fiscally conservative Club for Growth released its own poll indicating Trump was headed for trouble.

"Two days, and two more polls with the same message that Club for Growth Action reported on October 6: Donald Trump lost his lead in Iowa," the group's president, David McIntosh, said in a statement Friday.

"CFG Action ran $1 million of television ads in Iowa exposing Donald Trump's extremely positions on taxes, healthcare, bailouts, and property rights, and the polls have made it clear: Trump loses when voters know the truth about him," McIntosh added.

While the original CFG Action poll found Trump trailing Carson by 5 percentage points (16-21 percent) among likely Republican caucus-goers in Iowa, new polls illustrate a larger gap between the two outsider candidates.
