U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder said Tuesday that it will be difficult to meet the administration's Jan. 22, 2010, deadline to close the prison at Guantanamo Bay.

"It's going to be difficult for us to make the January deadline," Holder said in a press conference with reporters on Tuesday, adding, "It doesn't mean we're not going to try to do that."

He said the task force reviewing the 225 prisoners still detained at Gitmo has "gone through all the files," and is now making decisions on what to do with the detainees.

"In the end, Guantanamo will be closed, and I think that that is an appropriate thing to do, given the fact that it has served and I think continues to serve as a recruiting for those who intend to do this nation harm, and has served as a wedge between us and those nations that are our allies," Holder said.
