New York Woman Recovering From West Nile Virus

Published November 20, 2014

Associated Press

New York's Westchester County has its first human case of the West Nile virus this year.

The Journal News reports that health officials say an 80-year-old Yonkers woman was recently diagnosed and hospitalized with the disease. She's now recovering.

Since tracking of the virus first began in 1999, Westchester has had 30 human cases of West Nile.

The West Nile virus is mild for most people, but can be deadly for others with weak immune systems. Mosquitoes transmit the disease.

Symptoms include high fever, neck stiffness and disorientation.
