Published November 20, 2014

Associated Press

Authorities say four people who have been waiting for organ transplants have received the organs of a California Highway Patrol officer who died after being shot during a traffic stop on a San Francisco Bay area freeway.

California Transplant Donor Network officials said Tuesday that a 50-year-old married father of 4 from Southern California has received the heart of officer Kenyon Youngstrom. The 37-year-old Youngstrom died in a hospital after he was shot during the traffic stop on Interstate 680 in Alamo last Tuesday.

Officials say the three others receiving Youngstrom's organs were Bay Area women, including a 29-year-old mother who received his left kidney and pancreas after being on a transplant waiting list for three years.

A 52-year-old woman received his right kidney and a 63-year-old received the officer's liver.

The names of those receiving the transplants were not released.
