Will Smith weighs in on Oscars controversy, says he won't attend awards show

Will Smith won’t be attending the Oscars, following the lead of his wife, Jada Pinkett Smith, who said she would not watch or go to the Academy Awards because of the lack of diversity among the nominees.
“My wife’s not going. It would be awkward to show up with Charlize [Theron]. We’ve discussed it. We’re part of this community. But at this current time, we’re uncomfortable to stand there and say this is OK,” the actor told “Good Morning America” anchor Robin Roberts on Thursday.
Pinkett Smith announced in a Facebook video earlier this week she would be skipping the Oscars after her husband and other African-American actors were not nominated. The 20 acting nominees are white this year for the second year in a row.
"Had I been nominated and no other people of color were, [Pinkett Smith] would have made the video anyway. We would still here be having this conversation. This is so deeply not about me. This is about the children that are going to sit down and watch this show and they aren't going to see themselves represented."
Director Spike Lee has said he won’t attend the Oscars. Meanwhile, Quincy Jones has said he intends to speak with the Academy’s board of governors regarding the lack of diversity.
Some have called on host Chris Rock to boycott the show, but the comedian has yet to respond.
The Academy has not returned FOX411’s request for comment regarding the boycott.
