Val Kilmer appeared at a showing of a play he worked on, “Citizen Twain,” on Thursday in Los Angeles, and he struggled to speak as he addressed the crowd, according to People magazine.
The mag reported Kilmer stood on stage to answer the audience’s questions, frequently dabbing his mouth with a tissue.
“Obviously I’m still recovering. My tongue swelled up and I canceled the tour. As I’m recovering I’m showing this,” he said, according to People.
Kilmer recently denied reports that he is battling cancer. He took to Facebook earlier this month to discuss his health after friend Michael Douglas said Kilmer had been diagnosed with cancer.
Kilmer said he had dealt with a lump in his throat but that he has “no cancer whatsoever.”
“I still have a swollen tongue and am rehabbing steadily,” the actor stated.
Rumors have swirled for years that the 56-year-old star is struggling with his health. Kilmer has avoided commenting on the subject, which he said he knows had led to more speculation.
“Some fans have mistakenly thought my silence about my personal issues meant that somehow I wasn't being responsible to my health, because of my reliance on prayer and [love],” he wrote on Facebook. “Nothing could be further from the truth.
