Ohio State Revokes Bill Cosby’s Honorary Degree Days Before Retrial

In the days leading up to Bill Cosby’s sexual assault retrial, Ohio State University announced that they have revoked an honorary degree given to the disgraced comedian when he spoke at a commencement in 2001.
According to the Associated Press, the university approved to revoke the degree on Friday.Cosby is being tried on charges that he drugged and sexually assaulted Andrea Constand, a former Temple University employee, at his Philadelphia-area home in 2004. ONeill declared a mistrial last summer after jurors failed to reach a verdict in the case. The retrial is scheduled to begin Monday.

This marks the first time that Ohio State has revoked an honorary degree and it is one of a long list of honorary degrees that have been revoked or rescinded. In February, University of Pennsylvania rescinded an Honorary Doctor of Laws degree given to Cosby in 1999. Other universities and colleges that have taken revoked degrees from Cosby include Brown, Tufts, Fordham University, Baylor, Oberlin College, University of San Francisco, and Boston University.
