Last Living Member of Soul Group The Silhouettes Dies at 69

The Rev. John "Bootsie" Wilson, a former lead singer and last surviving member of the soul group The Silhouettes, has died. He was 69.

The Michael A. Glenn Funeral Home confirmed Monday that Wilson died Sept. 21 at his home in Spartanburg.

He joined The Silhouettes in 1961, after the original lead singer left the group, perhaps best known for its 1958 No. 1 hit "Get a Job." Wilson re-recorded the song with the group in 1968.

Wilson moved to South Carolina in 1972 and became a minister. He served as an African Methodist Episcopal pastor for three decades at eight churches.

Music historian Charlie Horner of Classic Urban Harmony calls Wilson's death the end of an era.

Survivors include Wilson's wife, Pauline. His funeral was Saturday.
