Michael Jackson's doctor has pleaded not guilty to a charge of involuntary manslaughter in the pop star's death.

Dr. Conrad Murray entered the plea Tuesday at his arraignment in Los Angeles Superior Court, where he was previously ordered to stand trial after a preliminary hearing of prosecution evidence.

Authorities say the 50-year-old Jackson died of an overdose of the anesthetic propofol in combination with other drugs on June 25, 2009.

During the preliminary hearing, a portrait emerged of the doctor trying to help Jackson overcome debilitating insomnia with the powerful surgical anesthetic that is not intended for home use.
