Hyundai is set to become the first automaker to offer a single vehicle with electric, hybrid and plug-in hybrid powertrains when it launches its new Ioniq sedan next year. The Chevrolet Volt and Toyota Prius rival will be unveiled next month before a formal debut at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show next March. The car will make its local debut at the 2016 New York Auto Show next April and should be in showrooms by next fall, as a 2017 model.

We’ve already spied prototypes for the Ioniq and the official teaser released today fills in some of the details. It’s clear the vehicle will feature a shape similar to its aforementioned rivals, and we can expect it to wear a number of contemporary Hyundai styling cues such as a prominent hexagonal grille and slim, LED-infused headlights.

Hyundai says the Ioniq has been designed around a new platform that was developed to be capable of offering all the various powertrain types. Unfortunately, no specs have been released yet. We’re expecting the hybrid versions to feature a 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine for their internal combustion component, and the type of battery used should be a lithium-ion unit. Lithium-ion will also be used for the electric model.

Stay tuned for next month’s reveal.
