PHNOM PENH, Cambodia (AP) — A Cambodian official says at least 16 garment workers were killed and two dozen injured when the van driving them to their factory was hit by a speeding bus.

Chieng Am, a provincial governor, said the accident happened early Tuesday morning near a factory industrial zone in eastern Svay Rieng province.

He said the oncoming bus was traveling at high speed as it overtook another car and then hit the van head-on.

He said the overcrowded van was carrying more than 30 factory workers and was driving within the speed limit. No one on the bus was reported injured.

Road accidents are a leading cause of death in Cambodia. According to report from Transport Ministry, more 2,000 people were killed in traffic accidents last year.
