Hungary, Serbia governments meeting as Hungary wants to build border fence to stop migrants

As the flow of migrants and refugees entering Hungary from Serbia reaches unprecedented figures, Hungary's plan to build a fence on the border between the countries will be high on the agenda of a meeting between the two governments.

Hungary says more than 67,000 illegal immigrants have been detained by police so far this year, nearly all arriving from Serbia, including an average of more than 1,000 people a day over the past week.

Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto said in the buildup to Wednesday's joint Cabinet meeting that because of "such unprecedented immigration pressure, setting up a physical barrier is a must," while his Serbian counterpart, Ivica Dacic, said his country was "absolutely and fiercely" against the fence, and compared it to the Berlin Wall.
