State media in the United Arab Emirates have published images of the country's president, Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, at his home in France.

The state-run WAM news agency offered photos of Sheikh Khalifa being greeted by other Abu Dhabi ruling family members in Evian, France.

The WAM report on Saturday described the visit as offering wishes for the holy Muslim fasting month of Ramadan.

Sheikh Khalifa was born in 1948 and became president in 2004. He is also the ruler of Abu Dhabi, the oil-rich capital of the seven UAE sheikhdoms.

Sheikh Khalifa suffered a stroke on Jan. 24, 2014, and underwent emergency surgery. He has rarely been seen in public since.

Last year, Sheikh Khalifa made another rare appearance in a state media video for Ramadan.
