An Irish beach which was stripped by storms 33 years ago has suddenly reappeared, full of sand.

The beach near the Achill Island villlage of Dooagh was stripped in 1984, with just rock pools remaining, according to Reuters.

"Some big storms destroyed the beach," Achill Tourism manager Sean Molloy told The Guardian. "It was completely washed away and 1984 was the last time the beach was there."

"Then in April we had that cold snap over Easter and the wind was coming from the north," Molloy continued. "It was steady and must have transported sand in from elsewhere."

Four hotels and various guesthouses were in business around the beach before the sand vanished, Molloy told the Irish Times.

"Now that the high Spring Tides have passed, it is expected that the new sandy beach will remain in place for summer 2017," Achill Tourism announced on its website.
