Turkey's state-run news agency says the presidents of Turkey and Russia have discussed developments in Syria, a day after three Turkish soldiers were killed in what Ankara claims was a Syrian government airstrike.

Anadolu Agency says Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan called Russian President Vladimir Putin Friday to share information about the ongoing military operation in north Syria.

Turkey sent troops into Syria to support opposition forces clearing a border area of Islamic State group militants and to curb Kurdish territorial expansion.

Ankara and Moscow repaired ties in October after nearly a year of tension, but differences remain over Syria. Russia supports the regime of Syrian President Bashar Assad, while Turkey opposes it.

Anadolu says the two presidents also discussed speeding up the resolution of the humanitarian crisis in Aleppo.
