Kuwait says that it has arrested a Filipina it accuses of joining the Islamic State group and planning an attack.

The state-run Kuwait News Agency announced the arrest late on Friday night, publishing a photograph of the woman in a black abaya, a loose black dress.

An Interior Ministry statement says the woman "confessed she wanted to carry out a terrorist act once she could."

The statement did not elaborate, nor did it identify the woman or say if she faced criminal charges.

Tiny, oil-rich Kuwait has been hit by an Islamic State attack before. A suicide bomber killed at least 27 people and wounded 227 during the holy month of Ramadan last year.
