Aid convoy enters Damascus suburb

BEIRUT – The U.N. and the International Committee of the Red Cross say they are delivering aid for 30,000 people in the besieged rebel-held Damascus suburb of Qudsaya.

The U.N.'s humanitarian coordination office OCHA says the convoy entered Qudsaya on Monday and that the ICRC and the Syrian Arab Red Crescent are taking part in the delivery.

ICRC spokeswoman Ingy Sedky says the delivery includes 6,000 canned food parcels, including beans, peas, tuna, dates and olive oil, as well as primary care medicine.

Sedky says the food is for 30,000 people and the medical items are for 5,000 patients, enough for three months.

Aid has been delivered to several besieged areas in Syria in recent weeks.
