Egypt official: EgyptAir pilots win pay raise after go-slow

CAIRO – An Egyptian official at the Cairo airport says EgyptAir pilots have been granted a 40 percent pay raise after four days of a go-slow protest.

The official said Monday that the raise will be applied over a two-year period, with the pilots — who had demanded an 80 percent raise — getting a 22 percent raise this year and the additional 18 percent in 2017. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because he is not authorized to speak to reporters.

EgyptAir flights had suffered delays and cancellations due to the slowdown but resumed as normal on Sunday morning. The go-slow is a protest form that is not an official strike but involves a slowdown in work.

Egypt's tourism industry has been struggling to rebound following years of political turmoil.
