SYDNEY – An Australian security contractor working at the Australian Embassy in Baghdad has died, officials said on Friday.
Australia's Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade declined to provide details on how the 34-year-old man died.
"The circumstances surrounding his death will be thoroughly investigated," Foreign Minister Julie Bishop said in a statement. "I am advised the high level of security is being maintained at the Embassy. In light of the ongoing investigation, and out of respect for the man's family, the Australian Government will not provide further comment at this time."
The man had been working for security company Unity Resources Group, Bishop said. The company did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
