A teenager has been charged with plotting a terrorist attack on an Australian Veteran's Day ceremony.

This is the second year in a row authorities say they have thwarted an attack linked to the national holiday.

Police say the 16-year-old was charged on Sunday with one count of planning a terrorist act after being arrested at his home in western Sydney. Police say the alleged attack was intended to coincide with Monday's celebration of ANZAC Day. The annual holiday commemorates the April 25, 1915, Gallipoli landings — the first major military action fought by the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps during World War I.

New South Wales Police Commissioner Andrew Scipione said on Monday that police believe the teen was acting alone. Scipione refused to release any other details.
