A Kenyan wildlife official says a lion has been shot dead after straying from a national park and attacking a man outside the capital of Nairobi.

Paul Udoto, a spokesman for the Kenya Wildlife Service, said Wednesday that the animal was killed by wildlife officials after it injured a man in the Kajiado district, some 57 kilometers (35 miles) from Nairobi.

He had no information about the nature of injuries inflicted on the man.

This is the second incident this month involving a stray lion. On March 18, a lion mauled a pedestrian in Nairobi before being captured.

Nairobi National Park, which covers 117 square kilometers (45 square miles) on the outskirts of Nairobi, is home to endangered black rhinos, lions, leopards, cheetahs, giraffes and diverse birdlife.
