Iran's foreign minister has used a meeting with his Australian counterpart to reject a U.S. argument that the test-firing of Iranian missiles had violated a U.N. resolution.

Mohammad Javad Zarif had a detailed conversation with Foreign Minister Julie Bishop on Tuesday about the legal and technical issues surrounding Iran's test-firing two ballistic missiles last week.

The United States called a Security Council meeting on Monday to protest the launches. But Russia says there was no violation of resolution 2231.

Zarif says Iran had not violated resolution 2231, although the tests may have violated the resolution it superseded.
