Spanish police working with Britain's National Crime Agency and Manchester police have arrested six suspected members of a British hit squad that had travelled to the Mediterranean Costa del Sol to allegedly kill the leader of a rival gang.

According to a statement Sunday, the suspects are believed to belong to a drug-trafficking gang from Salford, west of Manchester, known as the "A Team" that allegedly planned to eliminate the leader of the rival "Anti-A team."

Following a tip-off from Britain, Spanish investigators tracked down the suspects to two houses in southern Marbella where they arrested five men and one woman.

A loaded gun, several large knives and a vest weighted down with lead were seized.

It wasn't immediately clear when exactly the arrests were made.
