Ireland's police force has appealed for public help to identify a man whose torso was found floating down a canal in a suitcase.

Police frogmen searching the canal have failed to find the man's head or limbs, which would allow them to attempt to identify him using fingerprint or dental records. They have asked owners of commercial chain saws or industrial cutting gear to check whether their equipment was recently stolen or moved.

Deputy State Pathologist Michael Curtis determined that the man had been killed within three days of Saturday's discovery of the remains on the Grand Canal near the village of Ardclough west of Dublin.

Ireland experiences sporadic killings in turf wars driven by rival drug-trafficking gangs.
