Italy: Fate of 9-year-old Italian boy in cafe attack unclear

Italy says it is trying to learn the fate of a 9-year-old boy who was in the cafe attacked by al-Qaida-linked extremists in Burkina Faso.

The foreign ministry in a statement Sunday says it has confirmed that the boy, the son of the Italian owner of Cafe Cappuccino, was inside the place in the capital of Ouagadougou along with his mother when the attack was launched. The siege of a hotel and the popular cafe in Burkina Faso's capital on Friday claimed 28 lives.

The ministry says Burkina Faso authorities are carrying out a formal identification of the victims but because there are so many bodies, the process could take some time.
