BEIRUT – Convoys carrying food, medical and other supplies have left from Damascus headed to the besieged rebel-held Syrian town of Madaya near the Syrian capital.
A similar convoy is headed Thursday to the villages of Foua and Kfarya in the northern Idlib which are besieged by rebels.
The convoys represent the second humanitarian aid delivery to the besieged communities after a similar effort on Monday.
Madaya, a former mountain resort near the Lebanon border, has been under siege since last summer by forces loyal to President Bashar Assad. It came to international attention in recent weeks as reports of starvation emerged. Some 50 trucks are part of the convoy that left for Madaya Thursday.
A similar abysmal humanitarian situation has been reported in Foua and Kfarya.
