Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy is meeting with the leaders of two upstart parties following the Dec. 20 election that gave Rajoy's party the most votes but left it without a parliamentary majority.

Rajoy met Monday morning with Pablo Iglesias, leader of the far-left Podemos party.

He was scheduled to meet later with Albert Rivera of the business-friendly Ciudadanos party.

Rajoy is seeking support for his center-right Popular Party to govern as a minority party or in a coalition but his options are limited.

The main opposition Socialist Party has ruled out an alliance with Rajoy and Podemos is unlikely to support him.

Ciudadanos says it would abstain in a parliamentary leadership vote, allowing to Rajoy to regain power, but he needs support from other parties to win that way.
