KAMPALA, Uganda – Doctors Without Borders says 60 injured people were treated Monday after suffering injuries in grenade explosions in different parts of Burundi's capital.
The medical aid group said Wednesday that its team launched a mass casualty plan in order to treat the rapid influx of wounded, triaging to treat the most serious cases first.
It said in a statement that since its trauma center there opened in July, 630 wounded patients have obtained treatment. It said more than 390 of them required hospitalization.
Burundi has been wracked by violence since April when President Pierre Nkurunziza announced he would seek a third term in elections he eventually won. At least 240 people have been killed since April, according to the U.N.
