Finnish officials say a 29-year-old Iraqi man has been arrested on suspicion of committing war crimes in his home country last year.

The Pirkanmaa Regional Court in southern Finland says the suspect, Jebbar-Salman Ammar, was being held in custody on suspicion of war crimes in Iraq in June 2014. It gave no further details.

Detective Superintendent Jari Raty said Monday that police detained Ammar on Friday. He said the National Bureau of Investigation is conducting an investigation with officials abroad but gave no further details.

Raty said the case is not linked to the Paris attacks or last week's terror arrests in Italy, Britain and Norway of suspected members of an Iraqi Kurdish recruitment ring.

The suspect can be held for four months during a preliminary investigation before being charged.
