South African police say they have arrested a second man in connection with a shocking attack on two couples strolling in a Johannesburg park that left both men drowned and one woman raped.

Provincial police spokesman Lt. Col. Lungelo Dlamini told the African News Agency on Thursday that a 22-year-old man was arrested the day before. Another suspect appeared in court on Monday.

The couples were attacked by 12 men last month. The gang tied the two men up with their clothes and threw them into a lake to drown. They then raped one of the women. The other was able to escape.

On social media, residents living close to the park have organized weekly community walks to "take back" the park.
