PRISTINA, Kosovo – Kosovo's Constitutional Court has suspended a deal with Serbia to give more powers to Serb-dominated areas, an agreement that has sparked violent opposition protests in the past two months.
The Kosovo opposition has disrupted Parliament using tear gas, whistles and eggs to demand the government renounce the deal, and also one with Montenegro on border demarcation. They cannot come into power unless voted by the Parliament.
They have allowed only sessions when foreign guests have visited the country.
Following a request from the country's president in an apparent move to calm the tense atmosphere, the court on Wednesday said it has temporarily suspended any other legal act on the deals until their full consideration.
Kosovo declared independence in 2008, a move not recognized by Serbia.
