PRISTINA, Kosovo – Austrian President Heinz Fischer will be spared the sight of Kosovo's rowdy opposition setting off tear gas or throwing eggs in parliament. Thursday's session has been canceled.
On his Facebook page, Speaker Kadri Veseli said Fischer's wish to speak at the parliament could not be fulfilled due to the "violent and undemocratic blocking."
The opposition says no more parliamentary sessions should be held unless the government renounces deals with Serbia to give more powers to Serb-dominated areas in Kosovo, and with Montenegro on border demarcation.
Since mid-September the opposition has used tear gas canisters, hurled eggs and plastic water bottles or blown whistles to stop holding normal sessions. This week's session was postponed until Monday.
Kosovo declared independence in 2008, a move not recognized by Serbia.
