Prosecutors say British teenager organized terrorism plot to attack Australian police

LONDON – Prosecutors say a 14-year-old British boy planned and organized a major terrorist plot to kill police officers in Australia.

Prosecution lawyer Paul Greaney says the attack, if successful, would have left several people dead.

Greaney spoke Thursday at a sentencing hearing for the teenager, who is now 15 and one of Britain's youngest convicted terrorists. The boy, who can't be named because of his age, has admitted inciting terrorism.

Prosecutors say he conspired with Australian suspect Sevdet Besim to behead police officers at an ANZAC Day parade in Melbourne.

The boy was arrested in northwest England in April, after Besim was arrested in Australia.

Greaney said the arrests foiled "a major terrorist plot in its late stages, orchestrated from the north of England but to be carried out in Melbourne."
