VW says sold 32,000 vehicles with questioned engines in Mexico

MEXICO CITY – Volkswagen Mexico says it sold about 32,000 cars and vans in the country with diesel engines suspected of being manipulated to cheat environmental standards.

The company said the models were sold in Mexico between 2009 and 2015.

Most were passenger cars, but they included a version of the Transporter van.

The company said in a statement Tuesday it was checking to see whether the engines meet Mexican emissions standards.

It said the company would take any corrective measures necessary with no cost to customers.
