The Eiffel Tower was closed to visitors Sunday morning after a man with a backpack was spotted scaling the famous French landmark, the BBC reported.
It reopened in the afternoon.
The area was evacuated as anti-terror police searched for the man, though police came up empty in their search.
Following the Charli Hebdo terror attack in January and other Islamist-linked violence throughout the year, France is on a high state of alert.
Cops are investigating the possibility that the man could have been a parachutist who wanted to perform a jump, the BBC said.
