Spanish police have searched the family house of the Moroccan man arrested for trying to stage an attack on a high-speed train traveling to Paris late last month.

A police spokesman said the house of Ayoub El-Khazzani 's parents in the southern city of Aleciras was searched Tuesday following a request from French authorities.

He said he could give no more details regarding the operation.

El Khazzani lived in the house for some time before moving to France in March 2014.

El-Khazzani, who has had ties to radical Islam, was armed with a Kalashnikov rifle and other weapons when he tried to attack the Amsterdam-Paris train Aug. 20. He was overcome by passengers.

The officer spoke on condition of anonymity because of police rules preventing him from being identified.
